Common People

This afternoon I threw on the headphones in mostly failed attempt to shut out rest of the world while I try to grind out some production files. I don't get to do very much actual production work these days, since I have have to spend most of my time supervising, managing, and attending meetings. I'm not really complaining... but sometimes it's nice to just sit and crank out work.

Because I'm usually in constant interaction with my team members, I can't usually listen to music at work. Today I had a couple of hours during which I could justify refusing human interaction, so I retreated into iTunes. And rediscovered something...

I don't care what you think.... William Shatner's "Has Been" CD is a work of freakin' genius!

I'm not even kidding. Forget about that old "Rocket Man" cover he did... Forget "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"... This album is a totally different beast. It makes use of Shatner's distinctive voice to create a weird kind of poetry. Sure, it's a little goofy, but Shatner clearly knows it and makes the most of it. He isn't trying to sing here... but as a spoken word performance accompanied by music its a really fun ride. His version of "Common People" might be bettter than the original. The disc was produced by Ben Folds and features guest appearances by Henry Rollins, Amie Mann, Joe Jackson, and others. Check it out.

Gotta run.... meeting Kitty at her hotel and then dragging her up to Salem to meet Lizzie for the Haunted Happenings parade, drinks, and dinner. Spooktacular!
