This Monkeys Gone to Heaven

Long time, no blog... not sure why. No good reason. Things have been fine, and I've had plenty of time to write about how fine they are. I just haven't. Go figure!

Last night was the Grand Opening of Limelight Stage and Studios in Boston. For those not in the know, that's the cool joint that Lizzie is managing. Last night was chock full of karaoke fun. Big thanks to our friends and coworkers who came out to celebrate and show the love.

One thing that is currently filling me with big swirling rays of happiness and joy is that, out of nowhere, the Pixies announced a show at Avalon in Boston! So my favorite band ever is playing a relatively small club show about 10 minutes from my office for the first time since 1992. I tried valiantly to get tickets on ticketmaster.com, but somehow failed. Apparently the show sold out in less than 3 minutes. Fortunately, my friends Zubby and Jay managed to get through, so I'M GOING TO SEE THE PIXIES! On THURSDAY! Woot!

Liz and I had bought tickets to see them in November at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago on our Anniversary, but ended up unable to make it to Chicago that weekend. S'okay. I think I'd rather see them here in Boston, where they got their start. Now I'm getting all emotional... geez.

Mixed Bag

The good news: The Pixies show on Thursday was amazing. It's probably a good thing they aren't doing multiple shows in Boston, because I would have had to see them all. Really breathtakingly rocktastic.

The bad news: Lizzie was laid off on Thursday. Not the best timing, but we'll roll with it as best we can. We'll survive. Merry Christmas to us.

It's cold out. Cold, windy, and a little snowy. "Stay home, camp out in front of the TV with a hot toddy" weather. This would have been a good day to use on of my stacked-up and soon-to-be-lost-forever sick/personal days. But no... I'm a conscientious employee. I dragged my butt into work today. Employee of the year, right here.

It would be nice if this weather would pay off in the form of a "white christmas" but forecasts call for temperatures in the 50s Thursday and Friday. Sounds like it's going to be more of a brown and grey "earthtone christmas" this year.

This is going to be the first holiday season in over 12 years that I won't have to travel great distances to be with family and friends. Usually we head to back to the olde sod (well, okay, Wisconsin) to celebrate with my parents and extended family. This year my parents are coming to New England instead, partially because my sis-in-law in New Hampshire is too preggers to fly right now. Should be a fun way to surf the yuletide.
